Dr. Ahmed Elmagarmid is the executive director of the Qatar Computing Research Institute, which is affiliated with the Hamad bin Khalifa University. The organization is committed to support and improve Qatar’s technology & innovation initiatives and has distinguished the country through its competitive research on cybersecurity and computing technology. Before he became the head of the country’s top research institute, he went through extensive education in the U.S and taught in world-class universities. Mr. Elmagarmid received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Dayton and then completed his master’s and doctorate degrees in computer science at Ohio State University. He then continued his academic career at Purdue University where he taught courses in computer science and founded groundbreaking research organizations, the Indiana Center for Database Systems, and the Cyber Center which focused heavily on database research, digital government, and telemedicine. He then worked for Hewlett-Packard (HP) as a chief scientist and brought his expertise to the Office of Strategy and Technology at the company.
